Universal Credit and Volunteering- Delay in Implementation

05 September 2013

In May 2013, Volunteer Now produced a briefing paper on the Universal Credit system which is being developed as part of the Welfare Benefit Reform. It outlined proposals which are relevant to volunteering; including the possible implications for volunteer involving organisations and an update on our current understanding of the implementation plans.

This new system was originally scheduled to go live in Northern Ireland in April 2014, however new updates from the SSA have indicated that implementation will be delayed until the Summer of 2014. The new system is currently being piloted in England.

We have updated our briefing paper to reflect this change in implementation start date. At this time, there is no other new information available on the implementation of the proposals which relate to volunteering. However, we are keeping a watching brief on progress in England.
