Tribute for the life of Alan Henning

07 October 2014

The tragic death of Alan Henning and the circumstances of his kidnapping and murder bring into sharp relief both the importance of volunteer effort and the risks that can be there for individuals seeking to do good in a world that often seems to devalue the humanitarian principles of respect, compassion, saving lives and alleviating suffering for everyone regardless of country or creed.

An individual like Alan described as compassionate and good humoured, a taxi driver from Manchester, sought to reach out and bring aid to people in need. People he didn't know but still he empathised with their situation and in doing so showed his own humanity, an ordinary person doing extraordinary things. So Volunteer Now would wish to pay tribute to Alan Henning and send our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.
