Rams Island shoreline cleanup

Volunteers celebrate World Wetlands Day at Rams Island

Last Saturday to celebrate Ramsar's World Wetlands Day, Volunteers from ASDA, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful,The Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, the River Bann and Lough Neagh Association and the general public took part in a shoreline clean up on Rams Island and along the shores of Lough Neagh at the mouth of the Glenavy River.

Some 40 volunteers in total took part and a massive amount of rubbish was removed from the shorelines. The volunteers were treated with lunch on the Island provided by the River Bann and Lough Neagh Association. The clean up was supported by Antrim Borough Council who provided litter pickers bags and gloves and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful through the adopt a spot scheme.
