COMMUNITY WORKS FOR LIDL NORTHERN IRELAND

10 June 2015

Lidl Northern Ireland has unveiled an exciting new local campaign which will see the retailer support hundreds of community groups across the province.

'Lidl Community Works’ follows the success of the ‘Lidl Surprises’ initiative in 2014 which saw Lidl deliver random acts of kindness to over 350 community groups in Northern Ireland.

The launch is testament to Lidl’s ongoing commitment to Northern Ireland, explains Glen Cinnamon, Regional Director at Lidl Northern Ireland.  “Supporting all things local - from local suppliers and local charities to local jobs and local communities is central to Lidl’s commitment to Northern Ireland.  But we believe actions speak louder than words and that’s why we have created our ‘Community Works’ campaign.  We want to give back to the people who have supported us on our journey since we opened our very first store here back in 1999!”

Customers across the province are being invited to nominate groups in their local area that could benefit from Lidl’s support by downloading a nomination form from www.lidl-ni.co.uk and submitting it in any one of 38 Lidl stores across Northern Ireland by Sunday 14th June.

A panel of well-known faces, including international rugby player Rory Best, community worker Carol Doey, broadcaster Pamela Ballantine, chef and Lidl ambassador Ian Orr and TV presenter and model Zoe Salmon, will then have the difficult job of selecting 32 projects from the entries for Lidl to invest in.

Rory Best is looking forward to the challenge ahead, “This is a brilliant opportunity for any community groups who are looking for support from Lidl to help them achieve their goals. Although I expect it to be difficult to choose the finalists, I am really excited to see all the nominations and to read about the many fantastic projects which are happening across the province. So if you want to be considered for one of the 32 big projects make sure to submit your entries before Sunday 14th June.”

In addition to the 32 big projects, the Lidl Community Crew will also make surprise visits to over 300 groups with vouchers and goody bags.  Over 80 sampling events will also take place in Lidl stores across Northern Ireland.
