Launch of the Revised Code of Good Governance

17 December 2015

The revised Code of Governance and its accompanying resources will be officially launched on 29 January 2016 in NICVA by Frances McCandless, CEO, Charity Commission for Northern Ireland on behalf of the Developing Governance Group.

The re-launch of the Code will be supported by the re-launch of www.diycommitteeguide.org the online resource for committees seeking to improve their governance. The diycommitteeguide has been reshaped to fit alongside the new code and with new resources linking to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

The Code of Good Governance, which was first introduced by the Developing Governance Group in 2008, is a key piece of work in developing standards of good governance in the voluntary and community sector. It sets out principles and practices of good governance in an organisation, regardless of size, and as such, organisations have been using the Code as a tool to develop and/or maintain good governance within their organisations.

On a review of the Code of Good Governance's healthcheck and the diycommitteeguide, the Developing Governance Group recognised that there was some overlap with the principles and sub-principles in the Code and undertook a review of the principles in the Code. A revised Code of Governance was consulted on prior to the summer of 2014 and funding has been secured by Awards for All and Lloyds Bank Foundation NI for the production of the revised Code and an up to date accessible online governance resource.

You are invited to come along and hear how you will be able to use these revised resources in assessing or developing good governance practice in your organisation. To register click here http://bit.ly/1HSxn13 or telephone Cathy Breslin, NICVA on 9087 7777.
