Tourism NI in Partnership with Volunteer Now

15 February 2016

Tourism NI has announced a new strategic partnership with Volunteer Now. The partnership was announced as 20 volunteers from the organisation joined Tourism NI (TNI) at their attempt to break the Guinness World Record for pancake flipping at Belfast Met on Tuesday 9 February.

The partnership will ensure that volunteers will continue to contribute to a world class visitor experience, in line with the Tourism Strategy 2020 and that volunteering is embedded in future international and national events. It follows on from successful volunteer involvement at previous TNI events including the World Police and Fire Games, Giro d'Italia, Irish Open and Tall Ships.

Wendy Osborne CEO, Volunteer Now said "This is an exciting new partnership and an opportunity to contribute to tourism growth in Northern Ireland. Having previously worked with Tourism NI on successful major public events, we recognise that volunteers are key to helping deliver an authentic and positive Northern Ireland experience. Volunteers make a difference, they love getting involved and it shows in their smiles, commitment, humour and friendship. We already have an existingt diverse pool of trained and competent event volunteers and we look forward to expanding this."

Carolyn Boyd, Industry Development Manager at Tourism NI said "We are delighted to continue the successful and worthwhile relationship with Volunteer Now with this new strategic partnership. The Year of Food and Drink 2016 will offer many exciting opportunities for volunteers and we are sure that many of our events and business will embrace the opportunity to offer a range of volunteering experiences."

Wendy added "Volunteer Now will continue to develop activities that raise awareness of volunteering in relation to major events and tourism and offer support for organisations, including councils on good practice in the area of involving volunteers in events."
