Summer 2016 Voluntary Opportunity

12 April 2016

Code Club is a nationwide network of free volunteer-led coding clubs for children aged 9-11.

They create projects for their volunteers to teach at coding clubs in venues such as libraries and community centres. The project they make teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games, animations and websites. The volunteers go to their local club for an hour a week and teach one project a week.

Each term the kids will progress and learn more whilst at the same time using their imagination and making creative projects. Terms 1 & 2 use Scratch to teach the basics of programming. Term 3 teaches the basics of web development using HTML and CSS. Term 4 teaches Python.

They have also created online training for their volunteers, to make sure they have all the info and know-how they need to run a successful Code Club. You don't have to be a coding genius, most clubs start with simple programs like Scratch, but you need to be willing to learn.

They are looking for people to volunteer to run a club at their local library or community centre for an hour a week. They provide everything you need to run a club and someone from the venue will be there to support you.
