Collaborative Clean Up on the Shores of Lough Neagh

13 April 2016

Back in February it came to light that Rea’s Wood, on the shores of Lough Neagh, was severely littered after the harsh winter storms. Since then many volunteers have contacted Live Here Love Here, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, the Forestry Service and the Lough Neagh Partnership to offer their support to help restore the natural beauty to she special site.

The clean up plans began in earnest but in order to ensure the safety of volunteers was not compromised we needed to wait until the water levels had receded and that any dangerous debris was removed from the paths before we could call on the public to come and get involved. During this preparation phase the commitment from various bodies has grown and TESCO Antrim have pledged their support and commitment to the series of clean ups planned for the months ahead by providing volunteers and refreshments on the day –Every Little Helps!

How you can get involved?

You can join us at Antrim Lough Shore Park on Saturday 23rd April at 10.30am, shuttle transport will be provided to Rea’s Wood where the clean up will take place.

Volunteers will be joined by staff and team members from Forestry Service, Live Here Love Here, NIEA, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Six Mile Water Trust, Lough Neagh Partnership and event sponsor Tesco Antrim.

Volunteers must register with Nicola Murray at Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful: nicola.murray@keepnorthernirelandbeautiful.org  or call 02890736920. Volunteers can even pop into the store at Tesco Antrim where there will be a registration desk to collect all the necessary details.

This clean up initiative truly shows the pride that the community has for the area, we are all fed up with the litter so we are taking action to get it clean – we Live Here and we Love Here.
