Volunteers' Week Day 4 - Pamela's story

04 June 2016

Pamela Rainey is married to Ken and they have four children. Pamela believes that volunteering is part of your service to God. This value is also the mind-set of all the family members as they are actively volunteering at home and with short-term Christian missions abroad. The family volunteer both individually and collectively.

Here’s Pamela’s story:

“We have always been involved in the life of our church through Girl's Brigade, Boy's Brigade, Sunday School and Youth Club - both going to these organisations as children and then volunteering in these organisations as adults. We have also all been involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship again as children and then Leaders at the Fermanagh camps, and also on short term mission teams to other parts of the world.  The children also involved themselves in the life of the Christian Unions within their respective Universities.

Ken and my jobs are both in the Finance sector and therefore we are asked to volunteer in this area on several committees.

We are at something on a voluntary basis many nights during the week, both preparing for things and taking part in them. Also over the summer the children have involved themselves in many CEF camps and also Scripture Union 360 mission in the Enniskillen area. We have also been involved in children's work in Romania, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, and this year two of us are going to Ethiopia, one to the Philippines  and one to South Africa.

We believe it is important to give back to society some of our time as there were others before who gave their time to us. Also we believe in the aims and ethos of each of the organisations we work with.  If God has given us our talents then they are to be used and not wasted, and when you give to God, He gives back in abundance."
