Volunteers' Week Day 10 - Guide Dogs

10 June 2016

Guide Dogs NI are committed to making sure that blind and partially sighted people enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else. They have thousands of volunteers throughout the UK who want the same thing and there are many, many ways you can help us to help people living in your local community.

“Guide Dogs NI held a Volunteer Awards event on Wednesday 8th June at the Ulster Reform Club in Belfast to say thank you to our amazing volunteers. Huge congratulation to all the nominees, runners up and winners, without your support we wouldn’t be able to help change the way that sight loss affects people’s lives.  Our work across NI would be impossible without our volunteers who carry out a wide range of roles including fundraising, campaigning, boarding our dogs and delivering our My Guide service.  Thank you for everything you do to help people living with sight loss live more independently!”

You’ll find lots of photos from the Awards Ceremony on Guide Dogs facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/guidedogsNI/photos/

One of the roles that Guide Dogs have for volunteers is My Guide - here’s a short video that highlights one of the My Guide partnerships: https://vimeo.com/168351572

As a lovely follow up to the story, Grace has just been matched with her first guide dog and Joe recently went down to meet them both for the first time. It was lovely for him to see the impact that his volunteering had had in preparing Grace for that level of independence. This photo is of the three meeting for the first time.
