Local Government Awards Northern Ireland 2017

23 October 2017

Artisan Volunteers making the difference!

Award winning monthly Comber Farmers' Market (CFM), an outdoor artisan food and plant market, was started in July 2014 by four volunteers led by Alderman Deborah Girvan.   The market opened with 15 traders and a footfall of 500 and in July 2017 this has risen to 30 traders, 30 volunteers and a footfall of 1,120.

The economic and social impact is significant with research revealing the market contributes 14,500 monthly, 174,000 annually and 522,000 over the past three years to the local economy.   The success can be attributed to determined leadership, team work, good communications and the hard work of the volunteers who work tirelessly every month to bring a lively food themed market to the residents  of Comber and beyond!

Congratulations to all involved!
