Valerie Robinson from Carryduff has been an in-patient of the Withers Unit (Northern Ireland Regional Centre for Orthopaedic Surgery) at Musgrave Park Hospital, many times. Following her most recent surgery in February 2007, Valerie spotted an advertisement displayed in the hospital …"Seeking Volunteers"; she submitted an application form and has been involved ever since.
Talking about her volunteering Valerie said, "Volunteering can certainly be very rewarding - the satisfaction of being able to help another person is a strong motivation. I love the time I spend at Musgrave, I'm just sorry that I can't do more! At the hospital, Mr. Henderson and his staff helped me retain my mobility, and I just want to give something back to show my sincere appreciation - the volunteering certainly helps to put life into perspective for me, especially when I compare my disability to the various difficulties experienced by the lovely people I have had the chance to meet."
Valerie has been actively involved as a volunteer for some 2 years now and continues to assist Johanna Bell, Voluntary Services Manager. She even recruits new volunteers, not all human might we add!
