One Good Reason Action Day - Wednesday 29 September 2010

Are you a member of a 50+ group?

Are you looking for a fun, worthwhile activity that is absolutely free?

This year as part of Age Awareness Week, the Unlocking Potential project is holding a One Good Reason action day and inviting groups to give their time for 1 day only to support local charity and voluntary organisations.

You will have the chance to choose from a wide range of one off volunteering opportunities including gardening, painting, reading in schools, conservation work and many more.

Rotary

Belfast West Rotary Club took part in a similar action day in March this year. 15 members of the group worked with Lagan Valley Regional Park on woodland management and habitat creation.

Johnny Graham from Belfast West Rotary tells us why they got involved:

"Although we meet regularly as a group, this was a unique opportunity to work as a team on a different project and also in a very different environment. We had an exhilarating day. Our group bonded really well and the experience gave us the desire to do more.

The work that we did was quite physical but there was something for everyone to do, the age range in our group was from 50-80+! We could really see the impact that we made. We made a really big difference in a relatively short space of time.

I would definitely recommend other groups to think about taking part in a one off action day. As it is a great way to make a difference to your community or environment in a short space of time, plus the group gets to have a great team building experience at the same time. It really is a win-win situation".
