Befriending Network celebration event
Volunteer Now hosted a special event in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Stormont, on Thursday 6th November 2025 to celebrate the remarkable work of the Befriending Network and the volunteers and organisations who enrich lives across Northern Ireland.
The Befriending Network, co-ordinated by Volunteer Now, brings together organisations providing (or seeking to provide) befriending services for older people and other groups at risk of isolation.
We would like to thank Robbie Butler, MLA, who kindly sponsored the celebration event, and who says:
“I’m truly honoured to sponsor this event celebrating the remarkable work of the Befriending Network and the volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to supporting others. Befriending is about more than friendship; it is about creating meaningful connections that can transform lives, reduce loneliness, and bring hope and confidence to people who might otherwise feel isolated.
“I want to recognise the hard work of the charities who support the most isolated people to enjoy their local community, create trusting partnerships, and the collaborative working within the Befriending Network, co-ordinated by Volunteer Now, which is truly vital. Events like this highlight the incredible impact of volunteers and organisations coming together to build stronger, kinder, and more connected communities across Northern Ireland. Together, volunteers and organisations are proving every day that connection can change lives.”
