VOLT Session: Introduction to Certificate in Volunteer Administration
The Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is an international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management held by 1200 individuals globally. During this session, you will learn about the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA), why the CVA certification may be right for you, how the exam is created, what the application, preparation, and certification process is, and when you will be ready to apply and earn your CVA.
With this qualification people involved with mobilizing and coordinating volunteers can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.
Part of the CVA is a consideration of ethics in engaging volunteers. This session will also provide an opportunity for volunteer engagement practitioners to consider the difference between personal, organizational and professional ethics.
The core values and principles identified by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA) will be shared. Participants will learn a process for ethical decision-making that can be applied in any situation and then practice this using real-life scenarios related to volunteers.
Finally, several specific strategies will be offered for increasing awareness of ethics within an organization and helping both volunteers and staff become more effective at handling ethical dilemmas.
About our speaker, Faiza Venzant:
From a young age, Faiza Venzant’s parents instilled a strong sense of volunteerism in herself and her two older brothers. They, as immigrants to Canada from Uganda in the early 70s, made a successful transition into Canadian life with the help of many generous volunteers. A volunteer herself from a very young age, she has been an advocate for volunteer engagement and excellence in volunteer management for over 25 years. As a facilitator for the Community Action Poverty Simulation, Faiza is passionate about equity and access amongst volunteers and leaders of volunteers. Faiza immigrated to the United States with her family in 2021 and is the Executive Director of the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration.
