Volunteer Now’s Ways of Wellness project combats social isolation and loneliness among older patients presenting to GP’s in South and East Belfast. The project helps these patients to gain confidence and reconnect to their community.
There is good evidence that getting people involved in community life and improving social connections is good for health and wellbeing.
When the GP refers patients the project coordinator meets with them at the surgery to talk about opportunities available in the local community, and to get to know their interests. Once the patient has decided on a new activity to try our project volunteers can accompany the patient to encourage and support them.
All our Ways of Wellness volunteers are Police Record Checked, inducted and have received training for the role.
