Safeguarding in the Age of AI: Deepfakes, Exploitation and Emerging Risks (Belfast City Council area)

This free course is for voluntary and community organisations in the Belfast City Council area only.  For other areas, please view our training calendar by clicking here.

This webinar will explore the emerging safeguarding risks linked to AI and deepfakes, with a focus on children, young people and adults at risk. The session will focus on how AI is changing the risk landscape and what organisations can do to prepare.

The session will cover:

  • A brief introduction to deepfakes, voice cloning and AI-generated content.
  • Emerging risks including impersonation, grooming, exploitation, sextortion, manipulated sexual imagery, scams and financial abuse.
  • Key points from current Northern Ireland guidance on AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
  • Why it is becoming harder to reliably identify AI-generated content, and the importance of looking at context, behaviour and unusual requests.
  • Common warning signs including urgency, secrecy, pressure, emotional manipulation and attempts to bypass normal procedures.
  • Practical ways to reduce risk, including independently checking unusual or sensitive requests before acting.
  • Steps organisations can take to improve preparedness, including staff awareness, clear escalation routes and safer use of AI.
  • What should be considered within safeguarding policies and wider organisational AI guidance.

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and are limited to a maximum of 5 per organisation.
