Closing The Open!
What a Week! Golfers, Spectators, Celebrities – our Volunteer Ambassadors led the way!
Rain certainly did not stop play for the hundreds of volunteers involved in helping to make the 148th Open a resounding success. The World’s spotlight was on Northern Ireland and Portrush and each and every volunteer ambassador involved, turned up for their role regardless of weather conditions. Volunteer Now recruited 350 volunteers to support and enhance the visitor experience outside of the course– with some from as far away as Australia! Volunteer Now Chief Executive, Denise Hayward said:” We had an amazing response to our call for volunteers and during the eight days they were deployed at bus and railway stations, airports and along the route to the course. The age range was diverse with the youngest at 17 and others in their 70’s, they all did a brilliant job and got such a wonderful response from the public, we are very proud of them!”
There was indeed no better praise than from the worthy winner Shane Lowry in his celebratory speech when he said “Last but not least, the volunteers and all the fans. Thank you so much. This one’s for you!”
