Independent Custody Visitors

Independent Custody Visitor websiteThe NI Policing Board are recruiting Independent Custody Visitors.

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are volunteers from the community who make unannounced visits to police custody suites to monitor the welfare and treatment of people in detention and the conditions of detention.

They do this by, in pairs, speaking with people in detention, inspecting facilities and checking custody records.  This is an essential legislative role for the Board, ICVs report their findings to the Board and this helps make sure the PSNI meet their human rights responsibilities.

The Board is responsible for managing the Scheme and will provide all new volunteers with relevant training and support for the role.

So if you’d like to get involved with the Independent Custody Visiting Scheme, they’re looking for people from across Northern Ireland to join.  They will also be holding a reserve list to fill any vacancies that may arise.

Applications close on Friday 2 December 2022 at 12 noon.  Find out more and apply here.
