Duke of Edinburgh Legacy Bursary Scheme

Duke of Edinburgh Legacy Bursary AwardsVolunteer Now was delighted to be involved in the launch of the Duke of Edinburgh Legacy Bursary Scheme in memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.  The Bursary Scheme, established by Antrim and Newtownabbey Council, was opened by The Lord-Lieutenant of Antrim, Mr David McCorkell and Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb MBE for young people between the ages of 11 & 25 living within the Borough.

 

Duke of Edinburgh Legacy Bursary AwardsIt was inspirational to hear Jodie Gourley from Monkstown Boxing Club speak about how she has overcome adversity with support from The Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The Council is providing a total of twenty bursaries of £1,000 across two age categories; 11-16 years and 16-25 years.  Successful applicants will take part in a 10 week programme starting in September 2022 to develop numerous personal and life skills which will include:

  • drugs/alcohol awareness
  • good relations
  • leadership
  • money management
  • sports activities
  • animal welfare
  • dance and drama
  • beauty
  • photography

 

On completion of the 10 week programme participants will be able to apply for the bursary.
