What inspired you to get involved?
I thought that working with School Aid Romania would be a once in a life time opportunity. It sounded
like an amazing experience.
What does your volunteering involve?
School Aid Romania is a cross community organisation that brings together different schools and
young people across Northern Ireland. I attend weekly meetings, plan and organise fundraising events
for the charity. I travelled to Romania for an entire week in February. When in Romania, we visited
several institutions, delivering and purchasing aid.
What skills or qualities are required for your volunteering role?
You need to work well in a team and have good communication skills.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
I enjoyed the experience of being able to travel out to Romania, and see what I saw. Whilst it was
heartbreaking at times, I could honestly say that overall it was a positive experience. I loved seeing the
appreciation of the most basic aid we delivered.
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would
you give them?
I think the Millennium Volunteer scheme is a great scheme, and I would encourage anyone to
complete it. I would advise them to make sure you keep an accurate log of hours as you do them.
